SOMALIA + JAMAICA

EXHIBITION | MAY 2023

A work created in collaboration with Omar Jason Farah for Princeton's Black Arts Collective Spring 2023 Exhibit, AFROBUBBLEGUN
From the curatorial statement, written by Omar Farah:
"AFROBUBBLEGUN is a hyperbolic satire of the current art infrastructure that has profited off of caging and confining Black art and artists — an attempt for us to see ourselves clearly and open up space for the brilliance and talent of Black art to emerge stronger than ever."

Installation of SOMALIA + JAMAICA

"The videos, separately and together, demonstrate the fortitude of cultural memory — tracking how our respective cultural gestures have been entrenched within the public internet archive across generations. from sports competitions, to the runway, to music videos, to news reels, the culturally encoded nuances of movement are sometimes missed but endlessly valuable. this video installation rescues and centers the cultural body in public."
--- Farah, project collaborator
